Spring Water Harvest
As part of my self care, wellness and nature connection practice I only drink living spring or creek water. When I’m in cities I either drive out to the closest source of good water every couple of weeks or, in the worst case, I buy the best bottled water I can find.
Finding good water is easy when I’m out of the city and in nature. I look for a spring or a creek that has no ‘nasties’ upstream ie farmers or industry that may be polluting the creek. Generally I look for creeks that are coming out of forest or national parks so have no human activity upstream. Then I take a 15 litre water bottle and fill it. A 15 litre bottle generally lasts around 4 days so every 4 days I fill up again. Sometimes I’ll have two bottles though I prefer not to go longer than 4 days to ensure the water is still fresh.
I make the expedition and the walk to the creek and filling it a meditative practice. One where I hold gratitude for the water and nature, where I’m present and practice mindfulness, essentially minimising my thoughts and moving fully into my five senses, being present to each sound and sensation. Sometimes I’ll sit and meditate for a while after filling the water or do some exercise.
Fresh living water is so good for you. For a start it contains none of the pollutants that tap water has e.g. fluoride, chlorine or whatever may be in it from running though metal and plastic tanks and pipes. If it is tank water then often tanks are contaminated with parasites, plant debris or even animal droppings or carcases.
